http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/library/x-xml2008prevw.html

a great article from the sterling ibm -> developerworks -> library
pretty much outlines the death knell of xml and the web....sob:

"Unless the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) and browser vendors deprecate DOM and replace it with a sane alternative (preferably several sane alternatives: trying to do everything with one API is a large part of why DOM is as bad as it is), XML has run its course in software development?especially Web software development (and increasingly, that's the only kind of software development that matters). The W3C should address the needs of working developers and deprecate a bad spec when required."

(an absolute treasure trove of dev articles over there btw)

So you're basically saying that IE can read XML, but ignores all associated styles?  I take it, that IE assumes any XML content is a feed, and applies a blanket style on it regardless of what's in the document header?

Grrrrrrrr!

I'm still determined to make a site in XML - thinking of re-making my portfolio site.  Would be fun to do it in XML, but of course that means including an HTML one for all those IE viewers...

Bloomin' good web design and copywriting from a branch of design
