RSS - hosts blocked on-domain

So at work I have just uploaded a joomla site that uses RSS to pass content from one area to another.  Only, our hosts don't allow it... :(
Is this normal?  I know RSS was probably designed with passing information between sites in mind, but it's also a very useful tool to display content from your own site in a user friendly way.

Has anyone else experienced this?
